The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act aims to strike a balance between the public's right to know and the individual's right to privacy, as these rights relate to information held by the Government of Alberta. The Act ensures individuals have the right to access their own personal information. It also provides for access to other records held by public bodies, and includes strict standards that public bodies must follow for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal
